Sharp EL-2196BL Heavy Duty Color Printing Calculator with Clock and Calendar

Sharp EL-2196BL Heavy Duty Color Printing Calculator with Clock and Calendar
From Sharp

Customer Reviews

printing calculator4
Product meets expectations and was very reasonably priced. Arrived well packed and in exceptional time.

NO ON NO TIME4
WHEN IT STATES CALENDAR & CLOCK FUNCTION THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD BELIEVE THAT WHEN YOUR UNIT IS OFF (NOT A CALCULATOR) THAT THE TIME OR TIME CALENDAR WOULD SHOW ON THE DISPLAY. IT IS NOT EXPLAINED THAT THE UNIT "MUST BE ON" TO SEE THE TIME OR CALENDAR AND EVEN THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING THE TIME AND DATE DO NOT SAY IT HAS TO BE ON.
I WAS NOT VERY HAPPY THAT THE UNIT MUST STAY ON FOR THIS FUNCTION AS THERE IS A BACKUP BATTERY IN THE UNIT.
AS FOR THE FUNCTION AND EASE OF THE KEYS FOR A CALCULATOR IT IS GREAT, BUT HAD I KNOW ABOUT THE TIME FUNCTION I WOULD HAVE GONE FOR THE LESS EXPENSIVE ONE WITHOUT THE TIME.

Met my expectations4
For the price I recommend this printing calculator. It fulfills my need for such a product within my home.

Everything I wanted in an accounting calculator5
Admittedly, some of the accounting functions are not self-explanatory, so I've needed to refer to the owners manual a few times, but the ease of the keypad and the easy to read display make this the best calculator for the money. It is possible to buy cheaper, and spend more, but this calculator offers the most for the money. Reccommend to anyone serious about performing routine accounting and tax calculations.

Great Calculator4
Easy to read numbers. Big keys. Easy to use. Great product in price range. Would buy again.

Great Calculator, Excellent Value5
When my old calculator died I decided to try something new. This calculator is large, has a great tactile feel and prints in clear, dark tones (two color printing.) I paid roughly half for this model over what I paid for my Canon printer many moons ago and yet I'm not the least bit disappointed. If you want an excellent calculator at a reasonable price you won't go wrong with this model.

printing calculator5
If you only want an adding machine, this unit is overkill. You need to know a little math in order to appreciate the extra features it has. However, if you need a calculator to do tax computations, etc., I think it's OK for the job.

Great product but .............5
If you currently use a non-printing calculator it will take a bit of time to get use to this printing calculator. You cannot do simple math eg. 100-10=90. With a printing calculator you must make entries like this if you need to subtract an equation eg. 100+ then type 10 minus to get the answer of 90. Its strange to explain if you are not familiar with a printing calculator. For those who are I hope I explained correctly. Other than that, its a great product.

Easy 4
Well, there's not much to say on this product: it works. It's solid and easy to use. If you need a printing calculator, this has to be your choice.

Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 (Fiske Guide to Colleges)

Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 (Fiske Guide to Colleges)
By Edward B Fiske

Customer Reviews

good book.. but old school3
this is a good book, but i can't help but to think that the old school college guidebook is a little outdated in today's tech-savvy world. i'm looking for a searchable tool, somewhere where i can enter in specific criteria that i'm looking for in a college and subsequently find the perfect college for me. i'd realy suggest using a website such as www.campuscompare.com that incorporates the quantitative information available in such a guidebook with the student-reviews and digital media that reveals the personality of the school, all in a searchable database, online format that i am familiar with.

A useful guide!5
The Fiske Guide presents thorough information on a remarkable number of schools. In addition to basic enrollment statistics, this book provides up-to-date contact information for admissions departments, enrollment deadlines, a list of the school's strongest programs/departments, a list of similar ("overlap") schools for each college or university, and an in-depth discussion of academic and social life at each school. Well-researched and accurate. I am an academic counselor, and I refer to this book *constantly*. It is far superior to other college guides I have read. A must-have for anyone embarking on the college search process.

Detailed information with useful student feedback5
This is one of the best college guides out there. It has a lot of great detailed information on the colleges including quotes from students. The number of colleges profiled is just right--enough to provide some options but not so many that it's overwhelming. I really like how Fiske shares which colleges are similar to the one you're interested in. That makes the college search a little easier.

Product Description

For more than 20 years, this leading guide to more than 300 colleges and universities has been an indispensable source of information for college-bound students and their parents. Hip, honest and straightforward, the Fiske Guide to Colleges delivers an insider's look at the academic climates and the social and extracurricular scenes at the "best and most interesting" schools in the U.S., plus Canada and Great Britain.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 is a tool to help you make the most intelligent educational investment you can. With The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009, you'll get:

  • The #1 Bestselling College Guide
  • The guide that is most trusted by guidance counselors, students, and parents
  • A book packed with tips from current students about the ins and outs of their schools Fiske's exclusive academic, social, and quality-of-life ratings for each school

"I happen to prefer the Fiske Guide for its combination of compressive facts and figures and personal anecdotes and descriptions of each campus. They may take a bit longer to read than a quick reference guide, but each entry leaves you with an indelible impression of the academic and social life at the college in question."

- Excerpt from The Truth About Getting In, by Katherine Cohen, founder of IvyWise

The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2009 also includes:

  • Fiske's exclusive academic, social and quality-of-life ratings
  • The 40+ schools that deliver the best education at the most reasonable costs
  • Lists of each school's strongest majors and programs
  • Candid tips from each school's current students
  • A self-quiz to help understand which college is right for a student
  • Vital information on how to apply
  • "Overlap" listings to help students expand their options
  • Selectivity statistics and SAT and ACT ranges

Useful Programs for the Ti-89 Reviews

Useful Programs for the Ti-89
By Jimmy Allen Davis

Customer Reviews

Useful book of programs5
I think this book is valuable to the aspiring computer programmer and seasoned pro alike. The book gives you a chance to use the powerful programming capabilities of the TI-89 and Voyage 200 from Texas Instruments. Each program and its description fit on one or two pages so it is just as easy to go from start to finish as it is to radomly open the book and find a new program to input and learn from. The book also excels in that it offers programs from many disciplines like physics, astronomy, basic algebra, and calculus. So if you are looking to get the most out of your wonderful TI calculator and at the same time brush up on your programming skills, this book is a helpful and insightful start.

No Page Numbering - What a Major Waste of Time!!!3
I received this book about a week ago. Since there is no page numbering in the book, nothing can be found without paging through the entire book!! Since I got the book, I have been doing nothing but numbering the pages with my own system!! Lacking pages is the fault of the publisher (Trafford of Victoria, Canada), not the author. Many of the programs look very helpful, but I have not been able to try them yet due to the numbering problem!! I have never had to number another book's pages in my entire life and I am 60 years old!!

Product Description

Here an award winning developer who has worked for such esteemed organizations as NASA and Gateway Computers shares his developed code for one of the most successful and powerful calculators available on the market. These programs are perfect for the academic in high tech degree programs such as engineering or math. They save time and effort attempting to calculate information and data in such varied topics as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, vector calculus, differential equations, classical physics, modern physics, statics, space mechanics and more.

Blast your efficiency level to the stars with these proven programs and functions designed to help students fly by mediocre calculations and get to the mechanics of the problem, which is the most important part of learning. Students can concentrate on the guts of more difficult problems presented to them, placing them a step above the rest upon graduation and beyond.

Suitable for all levels of education from middle school and beyond.

Calculus with the TI-89 Book Reviews

Calculus with the TI-89
By Brendan Kelly

Customer Reviews

Absolute GEM!!!!5
This book, like others I have by Brendan Kelly, is clearly written, easy
to read, and he writes for his target audience. This book not only shows
the reader which buttons to push but also includes theory and asks really
good questions to ponder as you go. Do not be misled by the fact that it
is only 95 pages long. Those pages are jam packed with all the RIGHT in-
formation and calculus theory with illustrative solved problems and then
problems with detailed solutions in the back of the book. Each chapter of
this book should printed into every full blown calculus text at the back
of each chapter of the same material. In this way a student learns how to
use the TI-89 for the material he is studying at the same time. Doing
both simultaneously is enormously helpful to the learning process. The
calculator is not a substitute for doing the calculations manually - I
am a purist - but it is a great tool for checking those calculations that
you can do manually because you have done practice problems until your
eyes are falling out. Let me repeat myself: There is not a better, more
well written, more enjoyable book on this subject to be found anywhere.
Mr. Kelly, when are you going to treat us to a full blown 1,200 page tome
on introductory calculus written by you?

Calculus TI-89 with Application.5
Great for learning Calculus, the applications of Calculus and the use of the TI-89 to solve Calculus problems.

Great intro to TI-89 and Calculus5
This book provides a broad and useful introduction to Calculus and to the TI-89. It's especially useful for beginners in Calculus, who want to learn a bit about concepts along with learning how to use a graphing calculator. It moves at a brisk pace, but still explains concepts surprisingly well.

HP 12c Financial Calculator (F2231AA#ABA) Review

HP 12c Financial Calculator (F2231AA#ABA)
From Hewlett Packard

Customer Reviews

Advanced5
This calculator is very advanced, it has more functions than I know what to do with. The 12c calculator is smaller and has more features than the BA-II. It also comes with a cool carrying case.

HP 12C5
This is the third version that I have bought, the first one being in 1984. This item must be HP's all-time best seller in terms of units sold.

HP 12C Platinum5
This calculator is the best financial calculator in the world. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a business calculator. Takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, you will not want to be without it.

HP 35s Scientific Calculator Review

HP 35s Scientific Calculator
From Hewlett Packard

Customer Reviews

Very good, but not quite the glory days4
Probably the best scientific calculator on the market right now. Well designed and well built with a proper heft to it. The keys click, which is great, but instead of smooth and rounded like the Voyager and Pioneer families, they're square and wider with a different font.

Overall an excellent tool, but lots of little niggles that keep it from getting five stars and being an instant classic. The case itself is probably the most rigid of all my scientific models, but it's probably at the cost of being a little big, which makes pocketing the 35s a bit of a chore. Being a sort of commemorative edition, it apes the shape of the original HP-35, so the sides curve and has the larger size. The battery door (which covers a full third of the back of the case) annoyingly flexes and creaks, an odd oversight for such a well built design. Fortunately I was able to stop the creaking with some 3M grip tape stuck in the battery area. Something I didn't notice at first but has started to bug me is that the (C)/on key is not recessed or low profile. Accidentally turning the unit on is quite easy. This design oversight is almost bizarre, as every single other TI or HP I have has a low profile on button of some sort. Because the key layout uses distinct arrow keys that only have one secondary function, there were some small compromises made elsewhere in function layout. Most of these can be can argued endlessly, but the one change that was a genuine mistake was subordinating the STO key. RCL and STO are on the same key, with RCL as primary.

High quality product5
Thank goodness Hewlett Packard went back to the traditional calculator that made them famous for years. The recent 33s was a complete and utter mess. The 35s is an outstanding scientific calculator for a great price. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Away from the unit itself, the zippered clamshell case that comes with it is nice but overkill and too bulky. A leather slipcase like which comes with the 33s (which I ordered and fits well, and is way less bulky) would be better. Also, they've stopped shipping printed manuals. You have to call the 800-hpinvent number and get to the calculator customer service group and ask for a printed copy. They happily send it quickly for free, but getting it was a PITA. I know everybody wants to save trees, but the target market for this design genuinely expects (and actually reads!) the printed manual.

Those details aside, I'm happy with my purchase.

Piece of Junk1
With my old HP42s to compute sqrt(-1) you punched 3 keys: 1, +/- (change sign), sqrt; simple, straight forward RPN. For the HP35S the same key strokes give "INVALID DATA". You can ultimately compute the sqrt(-1), but it takes about 8 or 11 key strokes. Cannot give the exact sequence since I returned the calculator. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks this is a good calculator, they may not have had a real HP before the greed of Fiona. Too bad zero stars are not allowed.

TI-30XS Multiview Calculator

TI-30XS Multiview Calculator
From Texas Instruments

Customer Reviews

Easy to use5
I am impressed by the tactile response of the keyboard. I'm stunned by the features available for the price. (Years ago I agonized between buying a TI calculator that determined square root or an air conditioner. It was hot in my apartment and I had to derive square roots manually.) I especially liked the 4 line display as opposed to the Casio FX-115ES. I have found the ability to retrace more than forty calculations to be very handy too.

Extremely capable despite the low price5
My work involves a lot of exchange rates and foreign currency conversions. Really I was looking for a calculator I could program. Enter the exchange rate (which vary from day to day), other conversions like the factor from lbs to kilos. But time was short and a shop with the more expensive programmable calculators meant a special trip into town.

Here in Australia Officeworks (a sort of stationary Home Depot warehouse) have a very liberal return policy (7 days if you're not happy). So on this basis on a Friday night I bought a TI-30XB which is the battery version of teh TI=#)XS with a very attractive bright green in place of where the blue is on the 30XS.

This calculator has the abilty to store 6 constants x,y,z,a,b,c. So in my case I have 2.20468 stored as "x" (this converts lbs to kilos), AUD/USD exchange rate as "y"

For my work the mathview and relatively large screen are excellent. The calculator turns itself off automatically after a few mins if you're not using it. But if you turn it back on, you can scroll back miles if you wish and see all your old calcuations. Plus if you add 2+2 for example you on the next line down use that answer (ans) to do another calc.

awesome for a scientific calculator!4
This calculator is really great. A nice upgrade on the regular TI-30XIIS. I hate the <> button because it's where the "+" button should go. But if you just need a basic scientific calculator, or need to do some basic statistics, this calculator is perfect. Not nearly as awesome as the TI83 or TI89, but when you're not allowed to use those calculators for whatever reason this new calculator is way cool! MultiView rocks and so does the pretty math type!

While not strictly programmable I've used the data view (there's a data button to access this) to set up a table showing conversions from USD lb to AUD kg.. one of my main conversions. You can change costs in the first column and they reflect in the 2nd.

I'm trying to go digital here and away from printed Excel pages with conversions etc. Since getting this calculator, all the other calculators in the office are gathering dust. The two features above have me equally won.

For my applications this calculator although not small does the job. Over time we will see if we need a more sophisticated one but at the moment this is working beautifully.

Ti-nspire Cas Graphing Calculator

Ti-nspire Cas Graphing Calc
From Texas Instruments

Customer Reviews

TI...Did you forget to include something with my Nspire CAS?3
I'm basically saisfied with the product, but can't begin to discribe how poorly written and incomplete the documentation that accompanied it is. Case in point, my TI 83 plus came with a approximately 500 page manual. In contrast, the much more complex Nspire arrived with a 134 page guide. Can't wait for other publications on this calculator to hit bookstore shelves!

TI-Nspire CAS -- A Product-in-Progress2
I probably would have given this product three stars, but I feel that I must balance some of the overly generous grades given by other reviewers. I do not believe that a product that merely works merits a five star rating.

The Nspire CAS has the hardware potential to be a quantum upgrade to the aging TI-89, which is based upon late 1980's processor technology. And yet, at the time this review is being written, the TI-89 is a generally more powerful and easy-to-use programmable calculator than the Nspire CAS.

The built-in software of the TI-89 is very mature, and has much more programming capability than the Nspire CAS. This enables it to run thousands of free user-supplied programs, which can be readily downloaded into the '89 from the internet (via a PC) using only software freely available from TI. The Nspire CAS, by contrast, has no "free" connectivity to the PC or internet. Even if it had this, it cannot run programs written for the '89 due to the lack of many programming features, like input/output and menus.

Possibly TI will remedy the deficiencies in the Nspire CAS programming capability in time, but one should not purchase a product that might be upgraded at some indefinite time when a product that already has the needed features is available right now.

I believe that TI is aware of the foregoing and other deficiencies in the Nspire CAS (many mentioned by other reviewers here). That's why they've priced the Nspire CAS about the same as the TI-89 Titanium, despite the Nspire's superior processor (potentially 3x faster execution), massively larger (20x) user memory capability, and somewhat better display.

In the end, it's the software that does the work, whether on a calculator or a full-fledged computer. The TI-89 has proven to be an enduring example of superb hardware/software integration and value engineering, whereas the Nspire CAS, mostly due to immature software, is a beta product masquerading as a production release.

I am hopeful that the TI Nspire CAS will eventually supercede the TI-89. Given software capability that is merely the equal to that available with the TI-89, the Nspire CAS would today be the superior value proposition. Alas, that's not yet the case.

Does the job....4
This calculator does the job for what I need. No batteries needed and it is solar powered. Only problem I have is the cover case. It is not slide in / slide out cover cases like most calculators. It is more of a snap it on / snap it off. Other than that it does help protect it from dust and getting the screen scratched.

good buy4
It was sold out at our stores and I recieved it in a couple of days in the mail. Good choice

Great!4
I use this for advanced algebra I and it works great as a scientific calculator! (I still have to have a graphing calculator, but that is too big to carry around all the time.) I use this for everything I do math-wise and it works great!

Pros: well...it does what it's meant to do, and does it well. And at a great price, too!

Cons: I left it in my binder without the cover, and I think making it turn on and off all day long broke it. We tried replacing the battery but that didn't work. Also, I like a slide-on cover better than the span-on cover that this calculator has. Still, I am completely satisfied with it!

The product is wonderful. Nothing different that other models.
The seller has excellent service too.

Sixteen Years & Going Strong5
I bought mine in October of 1992 as electrical engineering student. In 16 years, it has never left my side. It is intuitive to use, intelligently designed, has lots of handy features built in and is as tough as a VW Beetle. I've dropped mine (and sat on it) more times than I can remember and it has suffered no problems whatsoever.

I recently added up how much money I have earned (so far) with this calculator, and the TI-86 is easily the single most cost-effective purchase I have ever made in my life.

I've hoped for an upgraded version, such as more memory or a colored screen, but honestly there is no compelling reason to upgrade. If I ever need more, I'd probably start with a pocket PC and go from there.

After sixteen years of great service, I'd only buy another TI-86.

"Have calculator, will travel."

Reliable, Durable, Great for Most Applications4
I have been using my TI-86 for 8 years now and it has never had any kind of problems.

I have left this calculator out in my car during the freezing Michigan Winters for weeks on end as well as the 100 degree Summers for the same amount of time. Never a single problem with the calculator.

The calculator has done almost everything I have needed of it all the way through Calculus and Linear Algebra. With that said, the TI-89 and others have much more utility for the high end courses, and are not hugely more expensive.

If you are going to be in a lot of college courses that have high end mathematics, then I would go for the TI-89 or other higher end calculator. If you aren't then it might be worth saving a little money on this incredibly durable calculator that will likely do everything you need it to.

Amazon.com Product Description
Designed with power users in mind, the TI-86 graphing calculator has all the power and functionality of the popular TI-85 but with significant enhancements aimed at students of college mathematics, engineering, and science. The TI-86 includes a function evaluation table, deep entry recall, seven different graph styles with multiple line and shading options, and slope and direction fields for differential equations. In addition, the TI-86 boasts 96 KB of user-available memory--three times more than the TI-85. There's also a new function evaluation table which shows numeric output for function, polar, parametric, and differential equation modes.

The TI-86 runs with programs designed for the TI-85 and includes all the same matrix features, but with a new matrix editor that allows the user to view and edit matrices in two dimensions. You can also view multiple lists and attach formulas to those lists for automatic computations. A new aspect of the TI-86 is the ability to customize product functionality with machine language programs downloaded from TI's Web site. Besides the strong graphing abilities, the TI-86 also has powerful calculus features like integration, derivatives, minimums, maximums, roots, and arcs. It also supports Z80 assembly language programming.

The 64 x 128 high-contrast pixel screen displays eight lines of 21 characters each plus two levels of display menus. With the TI-86, you can link to other TI-86s and TI-85s via the input/output port, and to CBLs, CBRs, and computers. --Dana Van Nest

Great companion for Financial Calculations5
I used to have a scientific calculator and for all of the complex calculations in finance I needed to build models by hand. This calculator helps you in many ways. Easy to calculate NPV by entering cash flows. Durable. I recommend it to every finance major.

BA II Plus Fin'l Calculator4
Great product and very useful!
Great service ordering it through Amazon, not to mention lower price.

the shipment is really fast, though the price is not cheap4
i found the same calculator in Meijer that is cheaper than the total price(including shipping fee) in amazon. However, the shipment is really fast, i don't care the little difference.

Amazon.com Product Description
We're definitely taking this along with us the next time we shop for a house. Though it takes a little effort to master the collection of financial worksheets available on the Texas Instruments BA II Plus, you'll be glad you invested the time and money in this fine financial calculator.

The more hard-core worksheet mode includes tables for amortization, bond, depreciation, and compound interest. If you're not familiar with such calculations, the very helpful user's manual will guide you through the process. All previous worksheet values are stored in memory, so you don't have to retype all the bond maturity or cash flow analysis figures.

The BA II Plus operates in standard calculator and worksheet modes. The standard mode lets you perform common math as well as operations involving the time value of money--that is, applications such as mortgages or annuities in which payments are equal and evenly spaced. You can also perform trigonometric functions in standard mode.

Finance students and average users alike will find much to like in the Texas Instruments BA II Plus. --John Frederick Moore
